Networking

Controlling and managing access to data and applications is critical. Network traffic is growing quickly, and you need the right infrastructure to simplify network management and quickly connect your users to the services they need.

Not only are more users flooding the network; more types of users are connecting, requiring varying levels of access and service. The demand and complexity of handling authentication and enforcing access policies on the network is increasing.

ProCurve positioned in “Leaders” quadrant of the
Gartner Magic Quadrant for Global Campus LAN, 2008

Industry analyst firm Gartner Inc. has released its Global Campus LAN Magic Quadrant  2008 – and ProCurve Networking by HP is positioned in the “Leaders” quadrant.

According to the Gartner report, “A leader has demonstrated a sustained ability to meet the changing needs for mainstream LAN switching architectures. A leader also has an ability to shape the market and maintain strong relationships with its channels and customers, and has no major gaps in the portfolio.”

“We consider our positioning in the networking Leaders quadrant by Gartner confirmation of ProCurve’s evolution from a viable industry alternative into an industry leader,” said John McHugh, vice president and general manager, ProCurve Networking by HP. “As the second largest enterprise networking vendor in the world, ProCurve’s dramatic growth over the past decade is attributed to our vision, the outstanding total cost of ownership we offer and our commitment to providing customers a range of best-in-class solutions based on open standards.”

In its LAN Magic Quadrant, Gartner evaluates networking vendors according to two major factors:

  • Completeness of vision (“evaluations that attempt to determine how well the vendor understands and is preparing for future market conditions, as well as for shaping the future market”)
  • Ability to execute (“analysis of ability to execute attempts to capture how well a vendor is performing across primary functional units of the business — product, sales/channels, marketing, service/support and financial”)

Based on these evaluations, each networking vendor is placed on the matrix, as above, in one of the following quadrants:

  • Leaders
  • Challengers
  • Visionaries
  • Niche Players
